Mayawati to Resign as Uttar Pradesh CM Today

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati will submit her resignation as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to the governor of the state on March 6, 2012 at 3.30 pm.

She will not get the second consecutive term this time, as the Samajwadi Party seems to be leading with significant number of votes. The BSP heavyweight has headed India's most populous state four times so far.

In the 2007 elections, Mayawati had headed BSP to being the single majority party after many years. This also made her the first chief minister in years to complete a five-year term.
