Pakistan’s First Luxury Train ‘Business Express’ Connects Lahore, Karachi

Pakistan’s first luxury train “Business Express” was inaugurated by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in the eastern city of Lahore on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.

The Business Express will run between Lahore and Karachi cities. It is the first non-stop train to run between the provinces of Punjab and Sindh. The train successfully completed its trial run on Jan. 26.

Thirteen carriages have been restored into a sleek sleeper to ply the 1,200 kilometres (800 miles) between Pakistan's two biggest cities, Lahore and Karachi, on an 18-hour journey that once used to take upwards of 30 hours.

One way tickets will cost 5,000 rupees ($55) and 9,000 rupees for return. Special platforms have been made for this train and the travel will be done with complete security. Pakistan Railways and Four Brothers International Pvt Ltd, a Karachi-based investor, will jointly operate it.
