Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani will launch Benazir Sahat Card, a cashless card under Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), in Faisalabad in March to provide health insurance of up to Rs 25,000 per family for the 90,000 poorest of the poor families consisting of 550,000 individuals.
The prime minister said that the redressing health problems of the poor would be a leap forward in alleviating poverty and directed the BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja to roll out this scheme throughout the country covering the six million families already benefiting from the program.
Gilani said that the health insurance coverage to the downtrodden section of society was a major stride towards making Pakistan a welfare state, and BISP would prove to be a catalyst in achieving that goal.
