Murdoch to Launch ‘Sun on Sunday’ UK Tabloid From Feb. 26

News International, the British newspaper arm of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp group, announced that it would publish a Sunday edition of Britain's scandal-hit ‘Sun on Sunday’ tabloid for the first time from Feb. 26, 2012.

In an internal memo to all staff, News International chief executive Tom Mockridge said the first edition of 'The Sun on Sunday' would appear on February 26. The announcement will appear on the front page of the Sun newspaper on Monday, Feb. 20.

The Sun on Sunday will replace the top-selling News of The World, which was closed in July 2011 after revelations that members of its staff had routinely hacked into mobile phone voicemail messages of celebrities, sports figures, politicians and crime victims and paid bribes to public officials to score exclusives. The ensuing scandal stunned Britain's establishment, led to dozens of arrests and resignations, and has spawned a wide-ranging official inquiry into British media ethics.
