Dunlop Suspends Chennai Plant Operations

Indian tyre maker Dunlop has suspended operations at its Chennai plant citing labor unrest.

The company said unruly behavior of workers at the Ambattur plant had caused heavy damages to its property, besides causing mental agony and torture to the management staff and their families.

According to the company, the workers had not adhered to the long term settlement (LTS) signed by the company with the employees union in 2009 and put hurdles in the smooth functioning of the plant.

The company belonging to the Kolkata-based Ruia group said the workers did not allow dispatch of 7.5 tons of rubber mixture to Falcon Tyres, a group company on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012.

Dunlop India said during the period of suspension of work which started on Feb. 21, the principle of "no work, no pay" will be followed.
