Canada Launches Aerospace Review to Boost Economy

The government of Canada has launched an aerospace review to boost the economy of the country.

David Emerson, a retired cabinet minister, will lead a three-member advisory council to examine how government, industry and other stakeholders can address key issues facing the aerospace and space sectors, and to find ways to improve cooperation among them into a larger, more dynamic part of the Canadian economy.

The review is needed "to ensure that Canada continues to have a strong aerospace and space sector and we will continue to protect the nearly 80,000 jobs that rely on it", Industry Minister Christian Paradis said in Montreal.

The Canadian aerospace industry, which ranks fifth in the world, has annual revenues of more than $22 billion.

The industry, headquartered in Montreal, where Bombardier has a factory that makes corporate jets and small commuter planes, has become concerned in recent years about new competition in the global market.
