India’s leading private life insurer “HDFC Life” launched its first international operations with the opening of its representative office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012.
HDFC Life plans to target 1.7 million non-resident Indians in the UAE and expects Rs 300 million premiums in first year of operations.
It is a joint venture between Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) and Standard Life plc, the leading provider of financial services in the United Kingdom. HDFC holds 72.37% and Standard Life (Mauritius Holding) Limited holds 26% of equity in the joint venture, while the rest is held by others.
