Green Puducherry Program Kicks off

Having lost much of its green cover of about two lakh trees in the devastating cyclone Thane on December 30, 2011 the territorial government has embarked on a massive 'Green Puducherry' program to help the city regain its lost glory.

A detailed plan drawn up by the Department of Forests has been submitted to Lt Governor Dr Iqbal Singh, who will launch the program at Rajnivas on Jan. 20 by planting some saplins.

The administration plans to plant as many as 2.5 lakh trees of different varieties in Puducherry, including in rural areas. The administration has set the current fiscal as the time frame to complete the planting of seedlings.
