Goa to Host Tomatina Festival on Nov. 5; Over 30,000 Participants Expected

The Sundown Tomatina Festival is scheduled to take place on Nov, 5, 2011 in Goa, which will run for two days. The main festival will continue for 12 hours while the rest of the time will be occupied by live events and shows.

Famous national and international bands will keep up the spirit of the festival and will make sure that there isn't a dull moment during the fest. The fest is an initiative from the Magnum Opus Films of Mumbai.

The event is expected to attract more than 30,000 participants. The organizers had claimed that they would be acquiring "non-rotten, but inedible" variety of tomatoes for the event. However, the environmental activists have opposed it saying that holding such an event, when the country is facing food scarcity, is a criminal wastage of commodities.

The Tomatina festival is annually held in a town in Spain, in which, participants throw tomatoes at one another and get involved in the tomato fight purely for fun. This festival had also figured in a Bollywood film 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.'
