Delhi's first kite-flying festival kicked off at the extensive India Gate lawns on Nov. 12, 2011 as thousands of colorful kites dotted the clear blue sky.
The two-day festival, inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, saw participation from Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Jodhpur and other states. Around 30 teams of amateur and professional kite enthusiasts took part in the festival organized by Delhi Tourism.
The kite-flying festival also offers puppet shows, a 100-kite string, kite cutting competition, food stalls and cultural shows. While kitists said they had a lot to experiment with the shape, size and material of the kite, Delhiites got an opportunity to see professional fliers in action.
The festival will be held on November 12 and 13 between 11 am and 8 pm.
