Bollywood first superstar Rajesh Khanna aged 69 passed away on July 18, 2012 at his home in Mumbai. The cause of death is not known yet but Mr Khanna had been ill for some time. The cremation is likely to be held at 4.30 pm today.
Mr Khanna was the top actor in Bollywood during the Seventies and early Eighties and is considered to be it's first real superstar. He starred in romantic comedies and dramas hits such as Anand, Aradhana and Kati Patanag. He has three Filmfare awards to his credit. Mr Khanna also held a Lok Sabha seat as a Congressman from 1992-1996.
Mr Khanna had been hospitalized on June 23, 2012 and was taken to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai to be treated for exhaustion and spent some days having tests. He was discharged on July 8. He was also hospitalized for a few days in April this year.
Rajesh Khanna made his debut in 1966 with “Aakhri Khat” and was last seen in the 2010 flick “Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein”. He is survived by his estranged wife Dimpla Kapadia and two daughters Twinkle and Rinke. Film actor Akshay Kumar is his son-in-law.
